Two former executives of iLearningEngines, a business automation platform, are accused of using AI hype to make the company look far more successful than it really was. Prosecutors say the company fabricated “virtually all” of its customer relationships and revenue, while pitching itself as an AI-powered training and automation business.

The case fits into a wider crackdown on AI-washing, where companies overstate, exaggerate, or outright fake their use of AI to raise money or boost credibility. Federal prosecutors have secured guilty pleas in adjacent cases, including SKAEL’s founder misleading investors about an AI startup’s revenue and MoviePass’s former CEO falsely touting AI-driven data monetization as part of an investor pitch.
